Apophyllite is a zeolite (a hydrated aluminosilicate mineral) with a Mohs hardness of about 4.5/10. Apophyllite is named for its “flaky” characteristics when heated. Chalcedony, which underlies the apophyllite in these freeforms, is a microcrystalline material with a hardness of about 7.
